How do you play FreeCell Master?
FreeCell layout showing 4 FreeCells top-left, 4 Foundations top-right, and 8 cascade columns with supermove calculation.
Beginner Tips for Success
- •Keep free cells empty as long as possible; they are your primary moving power.
- •Prioritize creating empty cascade columns over filling free cells.
- •Never park cards in free cells without a concrete exit plan.
- •Uncover low-rank Aces and Twos buried deep in the cascade columns early.
- •Look for opportunities to move whole sequences with supermoves.
- •Remember that almost every deal (99.99%) is mathematically winnable.
Key Strategies & Advanced Techniques
Definition: An empty column doubles the moving capacity of your free cells according to the mathematical formula (1 + N) * 2^K.
Example: With 3 free cells and 1 empty cascade column, you can move a sequence of (1 + 3) * 2^1 = 8 cards in a single supermove.
Definition: Advancing cards to foundation only when both cards of the opposite color and next-lower rank are already banked.
Example: You can safely bank the 5 of Hearts if both Black 4s (4 of Spades and 4 of Clubs) are already in their foundations.
Definition: Treating each free cell as an emergency parking spot rather than long-term storage.
Example: If 3 of your 4 free cells are occupied, pause and focus all moves on emptying at least two cells before continuing.
A Short History of the Game
Paul Alfille created FreeCell in [VERIFY: 1978] on the PLATO system, designing it as an open-information card game where almost all deals are solvable. Jim Horne programmed the Windows version in [VERIFY: 1991] with 32,000 numbered deals. Out of the original 32,000 Microsoft deals, only deal #11982 has been mathematically proven impossible to solve.

How we check our deals
Atelier FreeCell uses the Microsoft 32-bit linear congruential generator for numbered deals (#1–32000) and calculates multi-card supermove capacity via calculateSupermoveCapacity in lib/games/freecell.ts.
